Tips to avoid heat exhaustion:

Regulate your body temperature and stay hydrated! Regulating your body temperature and avoiding dehydration lowers your risk of heat stroke. Drinking water is the number one way to keep your body hydrated. Make sure to consume at least 64 ounces of water a day. Drink throughout the day to have a continues supply of fluids for your body.

Avoid dehydrating beverages. Avoiding alcohol and caffeine is a great way to steer clear of dehydration. This is because alcohol (beer, wine, liquor) and caffeinated drinks (coffee, tea, energy drinks) will remove water from your body.

Stay inside if possible! Remain indoors where air-conditioning is present as much as possible.

Plan your outdoor activities accordingly. If you are going to participate in outdoor activities, try planning them during the early morning hours or after the peak hours of the sun. Also, keep any strenuous activity performed outside to a minimum.

Wear the right clothing. Choose clothing that is lightweight, loose fitting and light in color. In addition to clothing, wear sunglasses and a wide-brimmed hat.

Protect your skin with sunscreen. Oviedo’s top chiropractor, Dr. Ressler recommends wearing sunscreen that is SPF 30 (UVA and UVB protection) or higher and reapplying it every 30 minutes.
