Stay in shape this Summer by doing exercises you enjoy!

Make exercise Fun!!!!

Do things you enjoy!!!!

Oviedo Injury and Wellness Center wants you to stay in shape. Many people think of lifting weights when it comes to fitness or an exercise plan. Although going to the gym is a great way to get in shape, most people do not like lifting weights and usually quit within a month. Think about how busy the gyms are in January and then in February/March they are a ghost town. Instead of setting yourself up for failure, try doing things you enjoy. That way you will look forward to doing the activities. Here are 3 suggestions that are low impact and will help you stay in shape!

Swimming

Swimming is a great way to get a cardio workout without any intense impact on your joints. This is because the buoyancy of water acts as a support system to your body. It allows you to get an intense workout with no extra stress that you would normally get from jogging or running. Swimming strengthens the core and is a full body workout.  Exercises in the pool such as walking in water, leg kicks, arm and knee lifts will help you develop strength, endurance, and flexibility.

Yoga

If you don’t have access to a pool, then Yoga is a great way to relax and strengthen your body. Practicing yoga a few minutes a day will bring awareness to where you are holding tension. Yoga poses such as cat-cow, downward facing dog and bridge pose will uncover where your body has muscle imbalances. As you practice Yoga, you will learn how to eliminate those imbalances and bring your body back into proper alignment.

Pilates

Pilates exercises were created to be a gentler way to get cardio without putting extra pressure on your joints. The movements are dynamic and are designed to alternate thus challenging your heart and lungs. Pilates will get your heart pumping, strengthen your core and give you better flexibility.
