Setting New Year’s Resolutions

Setting New Year’s Resolutions

Oviedo chiropractor, Dr. Ressler knows that setting New Year’s resolutions can be a fun way to motivate you to adopt a healthier lifestyle. However, it may add unnecessary stress, if not done properly. When deciding what aspirations will contribute to your health and happiness in 2022, do one important thing. Limit the number of your resolutions!!!!

Instead of listing a hefty undertaking, focus on one or two goals and make a promise/commitment to yourself to keep it. If you spread yourself thin with too many ventures, you will set yourself up for failure. Life is still going to be busy in the new year. You still have a lot of commitments already so don’t bury yourself!! An example would be committed to working out one day a week on a set day for one hour. Or eating a salad every day as one of your meals. Use little goals to create your final goal.  Dr. Ressler, Oviedo chiropractor also suggests to not wait until January 1st to choose your resolution. Your Oviedo chiropractor, tells his patients that “because planning is an integral factor in the success of achieving your goal, it’s best if you start in advance.” Start in December and make a list of some goals you want to achieve in the new year. Revisit this in one week and finalize 1-2 of these goals. Try to pick healthy activities that you like to do. Example: swimming, yoga, walking. If you like the activity, you are more likely to stick with it. Once you have set your intentions on a particular change, the next step is to create a plan of action. Be very specific and realistic!!! You may want to try writing out essential steps you will need to take to achieve your goal. Also give yourself rewards along the way as you achieve your accomplishments. Developing tactics and strategies will help keep you on track if an issue or set-back was to arise.  Remember to start off small by focusing on one step at a time. If you take small steps/goals it is less likely to fail. Trying to take on too much at once may completely derail your progress. Keep in mind, when completing one task at a time, ultimately is bringing you one step closer to your goal. Also, don’t worry if you make a mistake and take a step backwards. This can provide an opportunity to learn from your mistakes and keep you from repeating them. Another good rule of thumb is not to forget that any type of lasting transition is a process. Changes take time and typically do not happen overnight. Whether your goal is big or small, Dr. Ressler recommends making sure to pace yourself and take the appropriate measures.
