Beach plans for Labor Day weekend??? Oviedo chiropractor, Dr. Ressler is here to help you avoid unwanted pain or an injury this Labor Day!

Labor Day 2022 weekend is just around the corner! It’s easy to predict that many of us are heading straight to the beach for some fun in the sun. Seaside activities provide a lot of enjoyment, but if proper safeguards are not taken it may lead to an unwanted injury. No one wants to ruin their long weekend with pain or discomfort. This approaching “mini-vacation” means days are packed with plans and ventures.  Even though you may be busy getting everything in order, maintaining your alignment allows for proper range of motion and will lower your risk of getting injured. Be sure to schedule your pre-vacation chiropractic adjustment before you head off to your Labor Day pastimes. It is also wise to schedule a post-vacation adjustment in case you may have tweaked your spine. This will ensure a fun, pain free holiday weekend and will correct any that you may have when returning home.

Preventing an injury isn’t the only precaution you need to take with a Labor Day beach trip. A high heat index can be harmful to your health, so you need to make sure that you keep your body properly hydrated. Pack in the hydration by drinking fluids throughout the entire day. Drinking water helps to regulate body temperature and avoid dehydration. In fact, drinking water is the number one way to keep your body hydrated. Symptoms such as headache, muscle cramps, dark yellow urine or lack of urination could be an indication of dehydration. Typically, it is advised to consume at least 64 ounces of water a day. Avoiding alcohol and caffeinated beverages is also recommended. Alcoholic and caffeinated drinks draw water out from your body. It takes 1-2 days to recover from dehydration. Therefore, once you are dehydrated it will take up the majority of your holiday weekend just to recuperate. Timing of your trip is also critical. Morning hours tend to be less hot than peak hours of sun in the afternoon. So, heading to the shore early in the morning will allow you to pack in the fun prior to the hottest time of the day.

Packing for a beach day may require many different items. You want to make sure that you have enough water, food and supplies to ensure you are comfortable throughout the day. However, keep away from over packing and carrying too many items. This excess weight can put strain on the body and lead to an injury. First, avoid over packing by creating a check list of necessary provisions. Second, instead of carrying all your supplies, invest in a beach wagon to pull items. There are many compact and durable options to carry even the heaviest loads.
