FAQ-Auto Accident Injury Recovery and Treatment

FAQ-Auto Accident Injury Recovery and Treatment

Do I really need to see a chiropractor, or can I adjust myself?

Misconceptions about chiropractic adjustments are common. A typical misunderstanding is the belief that a chiropractic adjustment is just a “popping” sound in the spine. This could not be further from the truth. Chiropractic adjustments restore the alignment of your joints by moving the misaligned bones back into proper position. When a bone or joint is out of alignment it causes irritation to the nerves. This produces pain, muscle spasms and swelling. Misalignments also affect your range of motion because the joint is restricted and unable to move properly. Trying to adjust yourself is never recommended. In fact, adjusting yourself can be dangerous. Haphazardly pushing or twisting of your neck and/or back can cause the joint to be forced further out of alignment. This can damage the joint and will ultimately prolong your pain. Popping your joints frequently can also cause hypermobility of the joints due to laxity.

You should never adjust yourself!!! Chiropractic adjustments must be performed by a licensed professional! Only a Doctor of Chiropractic understands how the anatomy of the joint works and proper techniques to return it back to its proper position. It requires four years of Chiropractic education in addition to four years of prior college education. This in addition to multiple national board testing and sate requirements.

Dr. Ressler has over 21 years of experience as an Oviedo injury recovery chiropractor. He is licensed and board certified. His education and years of experience enable him to determine the proper position of every vertebra or joint. Every year he is required to take an additional 20 hours of continuing education. This allows Oviedo’s top chiropractor to stay up to date with the latest chiropractic techniques and procedures.

During your initial visit, Dr. Ressler will perform a thorough and comprehensive exam. The exam will determine the extent of the auto accident injury, sports injury, or injuries from your daily activities. Chiropractic adjustments are a wonderful way to remove pain from car accident injuries, sciatica, neck pain, lower back pain and headaches. Dr. Ressler is an experienced auto injury recovery chiropractor. Using his innovative techniques, he can also treat injuries in the extremities such as hips, elbows, wrists, knees, shoulders, and ankles.

Do chiropractic adjustments hurt?

Some patients are in a lot of pain and are nervous to be adjusted. This is completely understandable.

If you have been involved in an auto accident, you might feel pain and inflammation in the injured body region. This is the injuries involved with whiplash. This causes your ligaments and muscles to become weaker and unable to properly support a joint. Without proper care, the joint will move out of alignment. Muscles that have been compensating and have become adhered in an incorrect postural position over time.

After a chiropractic adjustment is performed, your bones, vertebrae and ligaments are returned to proper alignment. In the beginning of care, Oviedo’s injury recovery doctor, Dr. Ressler will slowly move the joint back into alignment. Unlike a harsh and quick manual adjustment, he works gradually, one step at a time to restore alignment to the joint. This is done to prevent discomfort and pain. How long an adjustment will last or how long a patient will hold correct postural alignment depends on the amount of damage to the soft tissue. Therefore, you may feel a soreness like if you had exercised after the first or second adjustment. This slight work-out sensation usually only lasts for a few hours. In fact, most Oviedo Injury and Wellness Center’s patients tend to feel immediate pain relief after an adjustment.

Dr. Ressler is an auto accident injury doctor in Oviedo, FL. His gentle chiropractic techniques involve no twisting or cracking. He uses a specialized instrument call “the activator tool.” The activator is a small handheld spring-loaded device that moves each individual vertebra back into the correct position one at a time. This technique is highly effective and is ideal to treat auto accident injuries. Because the activator method is extremely gentle it minimizes the potential soreness related to returning the joint back to proper position.

Dr. Ressler also uses a special table called a “Flexion distraction table.” The flexion distraction table is designed to treat disc injuries. The table works by utilizing traction in conjunction with a dropping mechanism to provide spinal decompression. This design allows Dr. Ressler to adjust your low back comfortably without any forceful cracking or twisting. Chiropractic adjustments are designed to restore the alignment of your spine and allow your joints to have full range of motion. Adjustments are simple, effective and are pain free.

My accident was minor with no damage to my vehicle. Do I still need to see a chiropractor?

Most people think that they do not need to seek medical attention if they are not experiencing immediate pain. A minor accident or “fender bender” with no damage to your vehicle still may cause an injury. Pain from an auto accident injury like neck and back pain may not be felt until two to three weeks after the collision.

Florida state law requires you to be evaluated within 14 days of your car accident or you will lose all your medical coverage for that accidentThat is why it is imperative to seek medical attention right away. If you wait until symptoms appear, you risk losing all the medical coverage you need for treatment. Without receiving proper medical treatment, you may develop permanent injuries.
