Oviedo Injury and Wellness Center’s Ultimate Healthy and Safe Halloween Guide

Whether it’s trick or treating, watching a scary movie or binging on candy There is no other day quite like Halloween.  When you think of Halloween, the first thing that comes to mind is all the various types of candy. Even if you are just planning to have a few “bite size” chocolate bars, it is still easy to over-indulge without realizing it. Balancing out the splurge of sugar with a nutritious dinner is important to maintain health and wellness. Although, the thought of a wholesome nourishing meal is likely the furthest thing from their minds. If you feed them a nutritious dinner before heading out for a night packed full of spooky fun, you reduce the amount of candy they will eat. Not to worry! Oviedo Injury and Wellness Center have some tasty and healthy Halloween inspired dishes to treat your family to a ghoulishly delicious meal.

STAY SAFE! WATCH OUT FOR THE KIDS!

Here are a few tips to keep you and your family safe while tricking or treating!

  • Try to trick or treat before nightfall. If not, don’t forget to bring a flashlight or glow sticks!
  • Wear brightly colored costumes and/or use reflective tape to increase your visibility to others.
  • Make sure your child’s Halloween costume is properly fitting to avoid tripping over loose clothing.
  • Choose face paint instead of a mask which can obscure your child’s vision.
  • Stick to known pathways that are ideally paved instead of bump roads to help prevent slipping and falling.

Halloween can create a lot of distractions. People are not usually focusing on their surroundings with all the excitement. Careless drivers can often cause auto accidents. Injuries sustained from a car accident may not be felt for a few weeks after the collision. Florida PIP law states that you only have 14 days from your auto accident to receive an examination. If you do not receive an evaluation within the 14-day time limit, you will lose all your medical benefits for treatment. Halloween can be a little spooky, but losing all your medical benefits is just plain SCARY! Don’t wait until it’s too late!
